The mining families who built the hall

Bowers Hall wasn't commissioned by a council or a landowner — it was raised by subscription, donated labour and Sunday afternoons, by the mining families of Bowers Row who wanted somewhere of their own to gather.

Pit wages funded the bricks; off-shift hours funded the building of them into walls. Names that still turn up on the village war memorial appear again in the hall's earliest minute books, listed against jobs like "roof" and "windows" rather than titles.
